Kelly Moran
Kelly Moran is a classically trained pianist who breaks the rules of academic music, creating hypnotic, experimental compositions.
Renowned for her collaborations with FKA twigs, Oneohtrix Point Never, and The Avalanches, Kelly Moran will perform on October 6 at Jassmine in Warsaw.
Over the past decade, New York–based composer and producer Kelly Moran has challenged traditional, classical approaches to the piano, offering a more contemporary and experimental perspective. Widely acclaimed, she has collaborated and performed live with FKA twigs and Oneohtrix Point Never as a member of their touring bands. She has also composed for classical pianist Margaret Leng Tan and recorded joint projects with other visionary artists of the contemporary scene, including Kelsey Lu, Yves Tumor, The Avalanches, Helado Negro, Bibio, and many others.
As a solo artist, Moran has earned recognition for her albums Bloodroot and Ultraviolet, on which she explored unconventional playing techniques—from John Cage–inspired prepared piano to improvisation-based experiments. Her unique approach to composition, combining hypnotic sonic textures with dramatic compositional arcs, has appeared on year-end lists across multiple genres—from classical and avant-garde to even metal.
Moran’s most recent album, Moves in the Field, released in March last year, was praised by The New York Times, which described it as “a tender yet tempered set of ten piano compositions, as blissful as the sound of a waterfall and as delicate as mist.” It marks the artist’s first album in six years—a cathartic close to a long period of personal loss and professional doubt, reflected in the record’s epic soundscape.
