Emma-Jean Thackray presents Weirdo
One of the most intriguing figures on today’s jazz scene – a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ, described by The Guardian as a “crossover star.” A Jazz FM Breakthrough and Album of the Year (Yellow, 2022) award winner, she will perform in Warsaw with new material. Her second album, Weirdo (Brownswood Recordings/Parlophone), is an unclassifiable blend of grunge, funk, soul, jazz and pop, and a personal story about loss, neurodivergence and embracing one’s own otherness.
One of the oldest genres of popular music, a language of sound expression that goes beyond all styles and maybe even beyond a musical lifestyle in time?!? Or maybe, like Stanisław Szukalski claimed, the first manifestation of true art since Gothic times?
