Since joining Miles Davis’ band in the mid-’80s, saxophonist Kenny Garrett has stood out for one thing above all: his pursuit of absolute perfection. While this could sometimes hinder his emotionality in certain passages, who can simply step out of their skin? On his new album Sounds From The Ancestors, Kenny goes further than ever before to gain some distance. And here, he reveals musical sides of his personality that we’ve never known before.

Sounds From The Ancestors is as multilayered as a film in which he plays the role of the director, screenwriter, cameraman, lead actor, and, of course, the soundtrack provider.
