Makoto Ozone “TRiNFiNiTY”

Since his international debut shortly after graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1983, Makoto has collaborated with some of the most outstanding jazz musicians. His projects have included The Trio (with James Genus and Clarence Penn), Super Quartet (with Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, and Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts), Amity Duet (with Avishai Cohen), among many others. Now he is opening a new chapter alongside two rising stars of the Japanese jazz scene – bassist Shimpei Ogawa and drummer Kunito Kitai.

Shimpei and Kunito have been working with Makoto since 2021 as part of the ‘From OZONE till Dawn’ project, in which the pianist joins forces with young artists. Together, they have performed at Blue Note Tokyo, prestigious concert halls, and during an unforgettable concert with the New Japan Philharmonic, where they played Makoto’s original compositions. These creative encounters and the trust built through them naturally led to the formation of the new trio.

In August 2023, the trio recorded their debut album in New York, which was released in January 2024 under Universal Music. Trinfinity is a meeting of a piano master with two emerging stars, united by a passion for jazz that transcends generations.
