Ashley Henry
Ashley Henry is an award-winning jazz pianist, vocalist, composer, producer, and bandleader. He gained recognition with his 2020 album Beautiful Vinyl Hunter, which was named Album of the Year by Jazz Japan and was nominated as Album of the Year by BBC 6 Music.
Henry’s musical style, inspired by London and his Caribbean roots, blends a wide range of genres. His work is grounded in classical training and draws from the traditions of Black radicalism, history, and the influence of figures such as James Baldwin, Angela Davis, Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, Geri Allen, and Aretha Franklin.
Henry supports the development of leading jazz vocalists in the UK. He was the first musician to collaborate with the Royal Observatory and founded Freestyle Fellowship, inviting Shabaka, Blue Lab Beats, and Binker Golding to support the Mental Health Foundation. His online concert at Ronnie Scott’s was the most-watched live jazz performance in Europe in 2020. As an ambassador for the Abram Wilson Foundation, he founded his own label, Royal Raw Music, in 2023 in collaboration with Naïve / Believe, continuing his artistic exploration and collaborations.
