Cykada [Astigmatic Week]

When cicadas appear in the area, they cause a tremendous commotion. It’s hard to escape their distinctive noise, which can reach up to 120 decibels. The hypnotic, trance-like sound disappears with the insects. After their explosive debut, the buzz around the London-based musicians subsided as turbulence hit the world, and silence fell over their camp as well… Fortunately, only on the surface, because another cycle began underground – in the quiet of the studio. It was there that Cykada matured, waiting for their metamorphosis. Autumn 2023 seems like the right moment for their return, along with their long-awaited album *Metamorphosis*.

Cykada’s debut album was highly praised by BBC, Red Bull Music, Clash Magazine, Worldwide FM, The Vinyl Factory, Qwest TV, and many others. The band has performed at numerous festivals, including Glastonbury Festival, Wilderness Festival, London Jazz Festival, Love Supreme, La Défense Jazz Festival, and BAM Festival. They’ve toured across Europe, visiting the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

Cykada has crafted a unique and infectious sound, blending independent music, jazz, and electronic elements with global influences ranging from West Africa to Eastern Europe, as well as soundsystem culture. The result is a fresh, dynamic genre mashup, unlike anything we’ve heard before. Cykada consists of members from bands such as Ezra Collective, Maisha, Levitation Orchestra, Zurito, and Myriad Forest.
