Joey Calderazzo, one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation, has released 13 albums as a bandleader and has progressed from a child prodigy to an elite jazz musician. A member of Branford Marsalis’s band and the leader of his own trio, Calderazzo has collaborated with legends such as Michael Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, and Dave Holland, exploring jazz through composition, improvisation, and performance.

His trio, featuring bassist Orlando Le Fleming and drummer Donald Edwards, exemplifies his dedication to improvisation and swing, which is beautifully captured on the album Live From The Cotton Club Tokyo, Volume I. His early collaboration with Michael Brecker and groundbreaking solo recordings for Blue Note Records were pivotal moments in Calderazzo’s career, leading him toward a more lyrical, rhythmically diverse, and subtle approach to piano playing.

Originally trained as a classical pianist, Calderazzo studied jazz masters such as Art Tatum, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea, drawing inspiration from their work to develop his own unique style. Albums like Haiku and Amanecer showcase his solo piano explorations, blending tradition with his personal artistic voice.
