It’s not every day that an artist of this caliber chooses to perform in such an intimate setting — which is why these concerts will be truly special. Joshua Redman agreed to play at Jassmine, appreciating the atmosphere and the unique closeness that comes from connecting with the audience in a space like this. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the music of one of the most outstanding contemporary saxophonists up close.

Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. In 1991, he graduated from Harvard College with highest honors (summa cum laude) and was accepted to Yale Law School, but he deferred his enrollment, intending to take a one-year break. Instead, he moved to New York City, where he immediately immersed himself in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. Just five months later, he won first prize at the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition.

Since then, he has collaborated with a constellation of jazz greats, released over twenty albums (on Warner and Nonesuch), and has consistently received top honors in critics’ and readers’ polls from magazines such as DownBeat, JazzTimes, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone.
