It’s not every day that an artist of this caliber decides to perform in such an intimate setting — which is why these concerts will be absolutely exceptional. Joshua Redman agreed to play at Jassmine, appreciating the atmosphere and the closeness that comes from connecting with the audience in a place like this. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the music of one of the greatest contemporary saxophonists up close.

Joshua Redman is one of the most highly valued and charismatic jazz artists to emerge on the scene in the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. In 1991, he graduated from Harvard College with summa cum laude and was accepted into Yale Law School. However, he deferred his studies, planning to take a year off. Instead, he moved to New York City, where he immediately immersed himself in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. Just five months later, he won first prize in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition.

Since then, he has collaborated with a host of jazz greats, released over twenty albums (on the Warner and Nonesuch labels), and consistently earned top honors in critics’ and readers’ polls from publications such as DownBeat, JazzTimes, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone.
