Legendary shaman of Chicago jazz, Kahil El’Zabar returns, this time with new material released with the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble – *Open Me, A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit*. In October, we will once again hear jazz, intense drums, and soothing spiritual rhythms at Jassmine, blending classic sounds with their African roots.

Multi-percussionist, band leader, vocalist, composer, conductor, and educator, Kahil El’Zabar is consistently at the forefront of the most creative figures in Chicago’s avant-garde music scene. Considered a pioneer of groove and Afrocentric jazz, El’Zabar has recorded and performed with stars such as Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, David Murray, Billy Bang, Lester Bowie, Nina Simone, and Stevie Wonder, to name just a few.
