José James - 1978

1978 was a groundbreaking year in music: a convergence of soul, R&B, funk, rock, disco, and jazz, which freely blended on radio waves and dance floors. It was also the year when music from other parts of the world — reggae and African music — found its place on the American scene, and a completely new way of making music, fresh from the streets of the Bronx, was just beginning to be discovered: it was called hip-hop. 1978 is also the year when singer/songwriter/producer José James was born in Minneapolis, and now, fittingly, it is the title of his twelfth album, released on April 5, 2024.
