Kassa Overall
Kassa Overall is an artist representing the New York jazz scene. He is a vocalist, music producer, and drummer who blends avant-garde experiments at the intersection of jazz and hip-hop in his music. His sound combines West Coast influences with a strong dose of New York’s jazz underground.
Over the past three years, Overall has produced several more critically acclaimed projects. The artist remains faithful to the jazz traditions of his mentors, the late Elvin Jones and Billy Hart, with whom he studied at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Kassa Overall has been at the forefront of global jazz for two decades, touring and recording with artists as diverse as Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Francis and the Lights, Yoko Ono, Peter Evans, and Gary Bartz. Meanwhile, his work as a producer can be heard on albums by Theo Croker, Arto Lindsay, and Das Racist. In September at Jassmine, he will present a cross-section of his discography, supplemented by a few surprises.
